42. International comparison of OC/EC in PM2.5 in urban sites

Shuichi Hasegawa, Kiyoshi Tanabe, and Shinji Wakamatsu

National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan

Organic and elemental carbon in PM2.5 was analyzed by thermal optical method and compared in Tokyo, Tsukuba, Beijing, and Mexico City. OC/EC concentration and ratio depends on some factors (e.g. emission source and secondary formation). OC/EC ratio is higher in Tokyo than in other sites. In addition to the international comparison of OC/EC, the limitations of pyrolysis correction for partitioning OC/EC in thermal optical method are also discussed in connection with sample collection.
